Edd Roush was called the "Tris Speaker of the National League." A crack hitter he won batting titles in 1917 and 1919 and ended his 18 year career with a .323 career average. The key member of 1919 Cincinnati Reds Roush was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.

Known to employ weighty bats during his playing days Roush claimed to have never cracked one. Offered here is a Hillerich & Bradsby-turned Roush weapon that refutes that assertion! This 34" 40-oz. white ash signature model lumber is Roush-like in its proportions with a Hornsby knob and a deep defined centerbrand and barrel stampings. The brown-hued bat hails from the 1921-1931 labeling period according to the experts at MEARS but further narrowed to 1924-28 by John Taube of PSA/DNA. The club bears lathe marks on both the knob and barrel ending as well as an illegible grease pencil side-written notation. The item reveals evidence of significant use with ball cleat and surface marks throughout and contrary to Roush's claim a 4-1/2" handle crack. Flanking the barrel stamping above and below are 10 vintage batboy nails. (These were used to secure the shipping label upon returning the side-written bat to its Kentucky-based manufacturer.) A prized hitting relic brandished by a Dead Ball Era great. Includes a LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS (Graded A-7.5) and an additional LOA from John Taube/PSA.
