1916 Zeenut of Vernon shortstop "Swede" Risberg a key conspirator of the Chicago Black Sox along with 1st baseman Chick Gandil in throwing the 1919 World Series to the underdog Cincinnati Reds. In the 1919 World Series Risberg garnered only 2 hits in 25 at bats for a paltry .080 average while leading the White Sox with 4 errors in the field. Risberg reportedly received $15000 for his part in throwing the Series which amounted to over 4 times his yearly salary. Once the scandal came to light after the 1920 season he was one of 8 players to stand trial. Though acquitted by a jury all 8 were banned from organized baseball for life by Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis. Risberg is the 2nd most difficult of the "Eight Men Out" to find as there were only 5 different baseball cards of him ever produced during his playing days. Card is rated PR PSA 1 but does display somewhat better. Corners about VG. Coupon removal at bottom is very clean. Pair of horizontal creases across lower center of card right above and below his glove. Back has some paper loss as the result of album removal at one time. (This removal probably caused the creasing) All things considered still a tough and very high demand card of a key Black Sox figure with excellent image and upper body detail.
