The 1912 World Series was a true Fall "Classic" in every sense of the word and is still considered one of the most exciting in MLB history. Eight painstaking games were required in the best-of-seven affair before the Boston Red Sox came away with their second World Championship by the oh-so-common 4-3-1 series tally over the New York Giants. After holding off John McGraw's boys by the score of 4-3 in the opener at the Polo Grounds, Boston hosted Game 2 at the hallowed grounds of Fenway and faced the great Christy Mathewson. "Big Six" threw 11 heroic innings, overcoming five Giants errors and six unearned runs to keep his team tied 6-6 in extra innings until the epic battle was called due to darkness. The BoSox's "Million Dollar Outfield" of Tris Speaker, Duffy Lewis and Harry Hooper went a combined 8-15, but the rest of the lineup could muster just two hits off the legendary right-hander. The very next day, the Giants won 2-1 in what was officially Game 2 behind a gem from Hall of Fame lefty Rube Marquard. The Sox won the next two games to take a commanding 3-1-1 series advantage, with Hugh Bedient outdueling Mathewson, 2-1, in Game 4 (officially) in spite of Christy retiring 17 straight batters at one point. Facing elimination, New York took the next two contest to force a deciding Game 7 (unofficially the eighth game). As fate would have it, the Red Sox had to beat Mathewson again and did so by the thinnest of margins, 3-2, to raise the banner in front of their Beantown faithful.

This lot includes three incredibly rare ticket stubs from this epic October battle labeled "Boston vs. New York - 1912 World's Series - Fenway Park": Game 2 (purple), Game 3 (yellow) and Game 4 (tan). Each are $1.00 Pavillion seats from the crucial Rain Check option, which obviously came in handy here for this Boston attendee after the Game 2 marathon. The stubs have been torn in different locations. Only Game 4 is ripped low enough to reveal the printed name of Red Sox team owner and president James McAleer. The trio has been glued/taped to a piece of brown paper, the reverse of which is a 1912-13 class schedule from a post-graduate dentist program. Overall, the authentic stubs remain bright in color with bold black print. What a find!
