William Howard Taft has the distinction being the only person to hold the positions of both president and chief justice of the United States. His presidency ran from 1909 to 1912 which saw the United States becoming a growing presence on the world stage. Our occupation of the Philippines and intervention in several Latin American countries brought the need for the expansion of the army. This 1912 document signed by William Howard Taft commissions a 1st Lieutenant to the Army Medical Corps Reserve. The commission document has been matted alongside a photographic print of the 27th president with an engraved plaque listing his career achievements. The complete framed display measures 32.5” x 38.5” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
