The T206 representation of Eddie Plank is among the most valuable and revered cards in collecting circles. Like its fabled bretheren the T206 Honus Wagner the reason for its scarcity has long been debated. A broken printing plate is one widely accepted theory as to why only a miniscule number of examples are known to exist today. Also like Wagner himself Plank was among the most gifted players of their era. A finesse pitcher with a sidearm sweeping curveball Plank joined the Athletics after graduating from Gettysburg College in 1901. He went on to pitch in the majors for 17 seasons winning 20 games eight times and helping the A's to six pennants in the new American League. The offered T206 Plank is very well centered with good color and a clear focused image. A light crease is visible at the bottom that does not break the paper and a 1/4" horizontal band of light discoloration is faintly visible across the center of the card. The right border shows a 3/8" by 1/8" section of surface paper loss. The Sweet Caporal back is fairly clean with bold printing.
