In an era when ballplayers were known as hard living hard drinking rouges the college educated fair haired and handsome Mathewson was the idol of millions. His articulate dignified persona contrasted a fierce competitiveness on the mound that made him arguably the most dominant pitcher of his time. He won 22 or more games twelve years in a row including topping the 30-win figure on four occasions. The offered card is based on the famous Conlon photo of Mathewson that captures his trademark pitching stance. This card is a pleasing PSA graded NM 7 example exhibiting light touches of wear at the corners. The colors are very strong and Mathewson's image is perfect. The back features the nicely printed Sweet Caporal advertising and is fairly clean. Strong Near Mint condition overall.
