The 1906 World Series looked like the mother of all mismatches. The Chicago Cubs set a Major League Baseball record with 116 regular-season wins. Meanwhile their cross-town rivals the White Sox won "only" 93 games and were known as "the Hitless Wonders" by virtue of their .230 team batting average. The entire Series would of course be played in Chicago (in alternating ballparks) plagued by foul weather that at times included snow flurries. In spite of the imbalanced match-up on paper Fielder Jones' famed "Hitless Wonders" defeated the heavily favored Chicago Cubs in six games to capture their first World Championship marking one of the greatest upsets in World Series history.

This spectacular oversized panoramic photograph captures the action during the sixth and final game of the 1906 World Series at South Side Park in Chicago. The extremely large photo (65 1/4" x 23 1/2") is taken from the perspective of the left field bleachers and encompasses the entire playing field grandstand and some outlying areas as well. The White Sox are in the field and pitcher Doc White has just delivered an offering to the plate while a runner takes his lead off second. An overflow crowd lines the entire outfield as police officers sit on the playing field to ensure order. White lettering along the bottom of the photo reads "Deciding Game-World's Championship Series-White Sox Vs Cubs-American League Grounds Sunday Oct. 14th 1906." The photography credit "Copyright 1906-Geo. R. Lawrence Co.-Chicago" appears in the right hand corner also in white lettering. The dry mounted photo shows excellent clarity and contrast with no significant condition faults or restoration. This is simply an exceptional and captivating panoramic image recording an epic moment in baseball history. Matted and framed to museum standards.
