Impressive metal and green glass punch bowl Award presented to famous racing pioneer and International Motorsports Hall of Fame driver Barney Oldfield for winning the 1903 Detroit Michigan "Ten Miles Open" car race. Just 3 months prior to winning this race Oldfield became the first driver ever to run an automobile on a mile oval track in just one minute flat at the then unheard of speed of 60 miles per hour. Green glass is encircled with a metal design. Engraved in the metal on the front side is "DETROIT MICHIGAN SEPTEMBER 8TH 1903 TEN MILES OPEN <<>> BARNEY OLDFIELD WINTON CAR TIME 12 - 19". It appears that the metal encasing the glass has broken loose at the handle to the left of the inscription. Bowl handles measure 12 1/4" high with bowl being almost 12 inches in diameter at the base. Included with the bowl are the original ornate metal lid and serving ladle. Displays magnificently!

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
