After America’s victory in the Spanish-American War in 1898, the country found itself fighting another war on the other side of the globe in the Philippines. This conflict lasted from 1899 to 1902 and necessitated a buildup in the size of the U.S. military. This army commission appointing a Lt. Colonel quartermaster of volunteers has been signed by the 25th president in bold black fountain pen. The commission certificate has been matted with a print of a painted portrait of McKinley along with an engraved plaque describing the document. The complete framed display measures 32.5” x 39.5” and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
