Featured here is an incredibly rare "four-spoke" black leather head harness that dates from 1890 to 1900. This uniquely designed headgear is lined with 1/4" of cotton batting on the inside except for the front forehead section which has an extra layer of leather. The chinstrap is missing but the buttons on the ear flaps where it once snapped in place are present. The brand and model are tagged on the rear interior (perfectly legible): "KICKOFF PAT 5-24-32 NO.1859313 PERELES BROS. INC MILWAUKEE WIS." The leather on the outside still soft and pliable shows light cracking with some slight tearing around the edges of each ear-hole. Overall the piece is in remarkable shape considering it is an ancient 120 years old. It presents in VG/EX condition. Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
