The iconic 1887 N172 Old Judge series of tobacco cards featured five versions in different poses of famous evangelist Billy Sunday. This exquisite "Catch Hands Cupped" (446-4b) pose comes has been graded PSA EX-MT 6 and stands alone as the highest graded of its kind in the PSA registry. There is only one other example in this pose on the pop report and that is a PSA EX 5.  Appearing crease-free and stain-free well-centered with slightly rounded corners its most noticeable blemish is the somewhat rough upper edge section. The card is remarkably well-preserved with strong eye appeal for its age.

On the field Sunday was a speedy left-fielder for Chicago White Stockings from 1883-1890 once stealing 84 bags in a season. He is best remembered however for what he did off the field. In 1890 he abruptly quit baseball and became America’s most outspoken religious figure in the early-twentieth century. The "New York Times" declared upon his 1935 death that Sunday was "the greatest high-pressure and mass-conversion Christian evangelist that America has ever known."

It should be noted that a total of 18 Billy Sunday cards are listed on PSA's pop report with ten of those having no pose indicated. Still the scarcity of this card cannot be understated.
