Vintage 1884 American Association scorecard for a game apparently played on July 17 between the New York Metropolitans and Philadelphia Athletics in a contest featuring a pair of 30 game winners Hall of Famer Tim Keefe for the Metropolitans(31-17) and Bobby Mathews for the Athletics(30-18). Also appearing in the game were Philadelphia's .404 hitter Harry Stovey who led the American Association in just about every hitting category in 1884 and New York's Dave Orr who finished near the top in most. 3 3/4" by 6" scorecard looks to be very neatly scored in pencil and has "July 17/84" in darker pencil by what looks to be a different hand. From the scoring it looks like the Athletics won the game 5-2. Front cover features a 19th Century ball player on a grass field with the words "STYLE IS EVERYTHING" printed below. Back cover has an ad for Wm. S. Kimball's Cloth of Gold Straight Mesh Cigarettes. Inside at top of scorecard is ad for Hirshkind & Co. clothiers. Bottom features an ad for Hannis Distilling Co. Whiskies. The cover appears to have been folded off center originally but is in otherwise decent condition for its age.
