Formed in 1854 The Brooklyn Excelsior ball club featured stars such as Jim Creighton Asa Brainard and Candy Cummings. In 1860 the Excelsior club made a now-famous tour around New York and other large cities in surrounding states. They defeated the Champion Club of Albany the Victory Club of Troy the Buffalo Niagaras and the powerful Brooklyn Atlantics to become champions that year. Offered here is a rare c.1870's silk ribbon measuring 2-3/4"x9" that bears the "Excelsior Brooklyn" team name surrounding a detailed rendering of period baseball equipment at center. The ribbon shows some minor deterioration at the top and bottom edges yet still retains excellent display quality for its age. The ribbon has been mounted in 5-1/2"x12" shadowbox-type frame. Apparent VG condition.
