Awesome early presentation bat from the 1869 Otoe Base Ball Club of Nebraska City, Nebraska. Beautifully printed in black ink on the bat at center is "Compliments of OTOE B. B. C. 1st Nine, 1869 To James S. Miller C. F.". It appears that at the time of presentation the names and positions of the other 8 players plus the "Scorer" were all neatly listed in the same black ink on the bat. All the positions are still visible with about 6 of the names all or partially readable. The celebrated 1869 Cincinnati Reds played the Otoes Base Ball Club on October 12, 1869 at Nebraska City, NE and defeated them 52-0 in 5 innings. It was the Reds 57th win in a row without a loss. Bat is uncracked with numerous nicks ad dings. Bat is 41 inches long and weighs 32 ounces. Extensive wear to the knob and head of the barrel. A very interesting piece of baseball history right from the very beginnings of the professional game.
