Michael Jordan’s “Last Shot” in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals turned out to be the last one he took as a member of the Chicago Bulls. After has “Last Dance” with Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen, and company, His Airness spent the next three seasons on the sidelines before getting the itch to come back to the NBA for one last run. In February of 2000, MJ became President of Basketball Operations and minority owner for the Washington Wizards. By the fall of 2001, he was lacing them up again.
On December 1, 2001, Michael Jordan laced up this offered pair of Air Jordans for the Wiz as they faced the Orlando Magic at the MCI Center (now Capital One Arena) in Washington, D.C. In 33 minutes of action, MJ poured in 15 points with 7 boards and 7 dimes as the Magic won, 96-87, behind Tracy McGrady’s 26 points. In Jordan’s first season back from his second retirement, he averaged 22.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists as a 38-year-old and made his 13th All-Star team.
These Nike Air Jordan XVII sneakers have been professionally photo-matched by Sports Investors Authentication to the 12/1/2001 game using two separate photos. The shoes come in white colorway with black, blue and chrome accents. Ample wear is evident from the game in the form of canvas creasing and toe drag. Properly tagged in MJ’s size 13.5 on the interior tongues, they both include the original Jumpman insoles. Jordan has signed the right shoe on the outer right ankle in black marker with an Upper Deck Authenticated hologram sticker affixed on the other side of the right heel. The dark midsoles have become somewhat sticky due to the aging process of the rubber material used, but this has no effect on their clean-looking aesthetics.
Includes photo-match and authentication paperwork from Sports Investors Authentication. Full LOAs from PSA/DNA and Beckett for the autograph as well as a UDA COA card (serial number BAH94056 does not appear in online database, but this is typical with Upper Deck autos from early 2000’s.) Found inside one shoes was note from Wizards executive with 12/1/2001 game info.
