On Friday, October 17, 2025, fans at Dodger Stadium witnessed perhaps the greatest individual performance in the history of professional sports. Ahead 3-0 in the series, L.A. was looking to sweep Milwaukee and return to the World Series for a chance at repeating. Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani started on the bump and batted leadoff in the Dodgers lineup. The stage was set in a playoff closeout game for something truly special, and “Sho-Time” delivered.
With millions around the world tuned in, Ohtani took the “Greatest Shoh on Earth” to an otherworldly level, hitting three monster home runs and pitching six dominant innings of 10-K, 2-hit shutout ball in a 5-1 L.A. victory to clinch the pennant. It was the game of a lifetime, something no baseball player – or any athlete for that matter – had ever come close to matching.
Ohtani went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with long homers in the first, fourth and seventh innings. In his second plate appearance against Brewers starter Jose Quintana, Shohei walked with two outs in the bottom of the second. During that at-bat, he hit a foul ball into the stands down the left field line. Dodgers fan, Raul Sepulveda, was standing up at his seat the entire time to watch Shohei hit. The ball was hit right at him. He sized it up and snatched it on the fly with his bare hands like a pro. A fan nearby captured the catch perfectly on video.
The official MLB game-used ball fouled off the bat of Shohei Ohtani in Game 4 of the 2024 NLCS has been consigned by Mr. Sepulveda. While it may pale in comparison to one of Ohtani’s three home run balls that night, it still stands as in incredible memento from his greatest ever game. According to the game’s play-by-play records, Ohtani only fouled off one other pitch during his four plate appearances. There is a significant scuff mark on the OMLB manufacturing stamp where the ball contacted Shohei’s bat. The word “Major” has almost completely scuffed off the white leather, making for an easy photo-match to images of Sepulveda holding the ball in selfies and photos at the game.
MLB Authentication did not sticker this ball or any of Shohei’s three home run balls that evening. This is typically MLB’s policy unless a game-used ball is specially marked beforehand in anticipation of a milestone. Includes a letter of provenance from the well-positioned, opportunistic consignor.
