Interesting January 10 1956 2-page handwritten letter from Brooklyn Dodger Hall of Fame centerfielder Duke Snider to general manager Buzzie Bavasi. Among the many items discussed Snider thanks Bavasi for his "thoughtfulness during the time of [his] mother's death" calling her "possibly the best fan the Dodgers ever had." He also asks Bavasi if the Dodgers would cover his wife's expenses to the Dodgers team dinner in New York. ''Being that she can't come to Spring Training maybe you would pay her expenses back to New York too. So then we would have a nice vacation along with attending the dinner." He asks for $700--a little on top of the $666 round-trip airfare to cover cab far--and requests Bavasi make Snider and his wife a reservation at the Granada Hotel in Brooklyn. He even asks Bavasi to line up a tuxedo for the dinner. Geez surprised he didn't ask Buzzy to wipe his behind too! GM's sure had a lot of other responsibilities back then. And players certainly weren't paid what they are today. Can you imagine A-Rod asking for such favors? Snider ends the letter with "Oh yes when is contract time??" Perfect 9-10/10 looking Duke Snider green ink signature at the end.
